Introducing Pat Souza, one of Heslin Construction’s top Superintendents. Pat knows the ins and outs of building a custom home and his talents keep the project organized and moving forward. Pat’s attention to detail, his mild manner, and his ingrained sense of responsibility are assets to the Heslin Construction team.
Where are you from?
Originally I’m from Cupertino, California. I grew up on a cattle ranch. As a young adult I moved to Tahoe City to check out the fun. I enjoyed the lifestyle full of recreating in the outdoors and never left.
What inspired you to get into the home building industry?
I was raised by my grandfather, who was an electrical contractor so I was exposed to a “hands-on” trade as a youth. As a kid, I was inspired to try out my own projects and realized I was good at it. Building forts and bike ramps for my BMX bike eventually led to helping build fences and barns on the ranch. I came to know I truly enjoy working with my hands.
What’s the favorite part of your job as Heslin Construction?
Although I miss the sawdust that comes with doing all the production work myself, I feel rewarded by the problem-solving side of being the Superintendent on custom home projects. Situations come up and it’s my job to find the path forward. I put and keep all the pieces in order and the success is very gratifying.
When you’re not working hard, what are you up to?
I enjoy hanging out with my family. I’ve raised my kids in Tahoe and they are avid skiers. I like to ski, hike, and backpack with my lovely wife. I also enjoy dappling in home brewing beer.
